Tarangire National Park, located in northern Tanzania, is a lesser-known yet breathtaking location famed for its rich animals and spectacular scenery. It covers around 2,600 square kilometers and is located in the southern half of the Northern Circuit, near more famous parks such as the Serengeti and Ngorongoro. Tarangire is frequently calmer, providing a more relaxing and natural safari experience. The park is called after the Tarangire River, which is the primary water supply for animals, especially during the dry season.
Tarangire’s elephant population is one of the most concentrated in Tanzania. The park is also well-known for its renowned baobab trees, some of which are over 1,000 years old and create a strange landscape, particularly during the dry season when the golden savannah appears. The Tarangire River and its surroundings are home to a diverse range of species, including buffaloes, zebras, giraffes, and wildebeest. Predators including as lions, leopards, cheetahs, and hyenas abound in the park, making it an ideal spot for wildlife viewing. Tarangire is also a birdwatcher’s paradise, with over 550 different species.
Visitors to Tarangire may enjoy game drives, guided walks, and the park’s calm isolation, which is less crowded than Tanzania’s other well-known parks.
